READ: Research Papers

Your first step will be READ. Reading research papers is a good way to get your self familiar with terminology as well as cutting-edge techniques. Once you finish, make sure to discuss them in our Slack Community.

A Note About Research Papers.

Before you begin your journey into the world of research papers there are some things you should know.

Research papers can be (and usually are) difficult to read. It is not uncommon to read the same paper multiple times before a lot of the topics become clear. These papers are typically written for a specific audience of researchers, professors and industry experts so the material can be very dense. However, with dedication and an open mind, you too will be able to read research papers and participate in discussions with these folks as your peers. Make sure that while you are reading these papers you are highlighting key concepts in the material, taking notes on items that are not clear and writing questions to yourself on how this research could be expanded. Who knows, you may end up writing your own research paper one day based on the information you have read here!

This week, there will be several papers for you to read on various areas of biologically inspired robtics. There is a lot of material here so please be prepared to spend a significant amount of time learning and gaining new skills. The best way to increase your knowledge of research is to have discussions surrounding the material you have read, so once you are done reading these papers, please join the discussion with a community of your peers and industry experts in our Robotics Slack Community in our #bio_robots channel.

On the following concepts, you'll find four (4) research papers. The abstract for each paper is included in the concept so you can "preview" the paper prior to reading it. Feel free to jump around, but the papers are ordered based on the density of material.
